Police say man living in Indianapolis admits to 6-year-old murder in Springfield MO

Someone shot William McDaniel at his home in Springfield on May 14, 2004. Eric Fairburn has long been a suspect before his confession.

Eric Fairburn, 36, is charged for a shooting death on May 14, 2004. Fairburn, who used to live in Springfield, is accused of killing William McDaniel at McDaniel’s home at 1669 E. Turner St.

Last Saturday, Indianapolis detectives contacted Springfield detectives after Fairburn turned in himself and confessed to the murder. Springfield detectives went to Indianapolis over the weekend and questioned Fairburn about the details of the murder.

McDaniel, 57, was gunned down about 2 a.m. at his front door in what police called an execution-style murder. He was shot multiple times.

Police have long thought Fairburn was responsible but never had enough evidence to charge him until now.

“He was kind hearted, giving,” said McDaniel’s wife, Becky, in 2005, one year after her husband was shot to death. “(It was) one of the very worst nights of my life.”

Becky McDaniel was pleading for someone to find the person responsible for killing her husband of 35 years. She was at home at the time of the shooting and called 911.

“It becomes more and more difficult as time goes on,” she said.

The charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action are finally a beginning to a resolution. It’s a cold case solved for Springfield police, and much needed closure for McDaniel’s family.

Fairburn’s chilling photo from 2008 shows the word “murder” tattooed across his neck. The tattoo has since been changed to a design looking like a leafy branch. Greene County prosecutors say Fairburn is known to be violent, and also has a tattoo on his head reading “Hoosier skin head,” as well as a tattoo over his right ear that says “Hatred.”

Police say he has strong ties to white supremacy groups. A quick Google search of his name pulled up a checkered past, including being on a Nazi watch list and being a guitarist for a band whose name stands for “holy war.”

“There appears to be no organized effort from the part of the skinheads being involved in this,” said Springfield Lt. David Millsap.

So why would Fairburn want to kill McDaniel? Police say McDaniel was in the throes of a drinking problem in 2004. He had been charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Police believe he had been drinking and driving when he hit motorcycle enthusiast Jerry “Sinbad” Riggio, who later died of his injuries.

“Any power to change that would have been the thing to have changed,” said Becky McDaniel in 2005. “He would never have intentionally harmed anybody because he had a conscience.”

McDaniel’s family is still reeling over his death but now, finally, it seems the man responsible for it will pay too.

Police say Riggio was a close friend of Fairburn and believe the killing was retaliation. What we don’t know is why he turned in himself on Saturday. Police say they can’t release that but say Fairburn provided “a detailed description of how and why he murdered McDaniel.”

Indianapolis police say he has a long criminal history with them of assaults. He’s in jail in Indianapolis awaiting transfer to Missouri. Greene County prosecutors hope a judge will set a $2 million bond for him. They say he’s known to be violent, and has a conviction in Indianapolis for an assault on a homeless black man, as well as charges for aggravated battery and terrorist threats in Kansas.

Operation South Coast: Germany’s plans for the invasion of Britain revealed in rare Nazi book not seen for 70 years

With obscure technical diagrams and notes scrawled over its pages of faded colour maps, this book might appear as nothing more than an uninspiring aerial survey.

But these pictures are taken from Adolf Hitler’s original war dossier of the planned Nazi invasion of Britain.

Unveiled for the first time 70 years to the day of Hitler’s planned onslaught on England’s south coast, the blueprints offer a chilling insight into what might have been on the morning of September 15, 1940.

Reading between the enemy lines: The 446-page Nazi war dossier details Hitler's planned 'Operation Sealion' - an invasion of mainland Britain in the late summer of 1940. The main title translates as 'South Coast - military and geographical data above England.' (It is underlined above with 'Only for official use!')

The booklet pinpoints the quaint English coastal towns in the path of the Nazi ground assault, which could have been a grim reality had the RAF not performed so valiantly against the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain.

The invaders’ guide book also eerily shows how postcards identifying unmistakable landmarks such as Brighton Pier and Land’s End were given to Nazi troops to identify their targets in preparation for their blitz of the British Isles.

The original copy of the Nazis’ briefing book Militargoegraphiscke Angaben uber England Sudkuste for ‘Operation Sealion’ detailed every attack point and weakness along England’s south coast ahead of the Germans’ assault in September 1940.

Order of battle: Maps show the planned distribution of Hitler's forces in the earliest stages of the planned German assault

Detail: The dossier included large colour maps showing every part of the south coast, from Land's End in the south-west to Foreness Point in Kent

It is said to have been the most vital part of the painstakingly detailed German attack plan, and included large colour maps showing every part of the south coast, from Land’s End in the south west to Foreness Point in Kent.

On September 17, 1940 Hitler was forced to indefinitely postpone Operation Sealion because of the Luftwaffe’s failure to gain air supremacy over England in the fateful summer aerial engagement.

The Nazi offensive never took place after the German defeat in the skies, but experts believe the newly-found book for Operation Sealion reveals what could have happened if the Battle Of Britain and the longer, grimmer, Battle Of The Atlantic had gone Germany’s way .

Wish we were here: The book contains photographs of landmarks and vantage points vital to the German war machine

The 446-page war dossier will go under the hammer later this month and is expected to make at least £500 when it goes to auction in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Richard Westwood-Brookes, from Mullocks Auctioneers, said: ‘The book on Operation Sealion gives a fascinating insight into what life could have been like if the Germans had invaded.

‘It would only have been issued to a few high-profile Nazi officials in advance of the invasion which was due to take place soon after.

Proud: A family show their patriotism as trains pass by carrying men of the British Expeditionary Forces back from the front in June, 1940. The German invasion was meant to have taken place three months later

‘The book is a chilling reminder of what could have happened 70 years ago virtually to the day, had not “The Few” won the decisive Battle of Britain and caused the vital postponement of Hitler’s plan.

‘It’s a book with detailed maps and mile-by-mile surveys on the south coast of England, so the Germans knew where they were going and had profiles of the entire length of English coast.’

Historical records say Hitler planned to invade England with six divisions of German troops heading through Kent via Folkestone and Ramsgate.

Courageous: The Nazi ground assault could have been a grim reality had the RAF (above) not performed so valiantly against the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain

Another unit of four Nazi divisions would invade Sussex and Hampshire via Brighton and the Isle of Wight, while a third group of three German divisions would attempt to take Dorset via Lyme Bay.

Mr Westwood-Brookes added: ‘There are details in this book about where the Germans thought they could land safely and where they thought they might come across difficulty – it really was the blueprint for the Nazi invasion.’

‘There may have been shingle beaches or quicksand at the various landing points along the coast, so it gives a great insight into where Hitler’s men thought they could go.

‘It’s the kind of book that would’ve been carried by a high-ranking German brigade commander as he led his forces on the way to London.’

The book also contains a folding plan showing the underlying terrain on the south coast, as well as features like railways and roads.

Neo-Nazis Recruiting Children, Teachers

by White Power Kriesgberichter

Neo-Nazis Recruiting Children, Teachers

German authorities say neo-Nazi thugs are trying to brainwash toddlers with tactics reminiscent of the Third Reich, including applying to run day care centers, recruiting skinhead teachers and sneaking children’s books praising Hitler into kindergartens, Der Spiegel reported Tuesday.

A state in eastern Germany has tried to combat the blitzkrieg of far-right recruiting activities by vetting teachers and forcing anyone setting up a daycare center to pledge allegiance to Germany’s democratic constitution.

Concern is growing about the neo-Nazi movement taking over kindergartens as racist youth, responsible for attacks in the 1990s, now become parents “intent on rearing little skinheads,” the European newsmagazine reported.

The pledge of allegiance, imposed by the government of the eastern German state of Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania, followed reports of neo-Nazis trying to take over the running of kindergartens, influence teaching in nurseries or get recruited as teachers.

In February the village of Bartow, in the northeast of the state, almost permitted a member of the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD), which glorifies Nazism, to take over a kindergarten that was on the verge of closing due to a lack of funds.

There have been other reports of skinhead parents bringing in racist children’s books and demanding that photos of immigrant children be removed from classroom walls.

Concern is also growing that in some thinly populated regions there may be enough neo-Nazi parents to secure a majority on district school boards.

“Within the far-right scene there appears to be a more or less clear strategy to encourage young women to train for teaching and social work jobs because that offers an opportunity to spread nationalist ideology,” said Heike Radvan, an educational scientist at the Berlin-based Amadeu Antonio Foundation, an anti-racism group.

Eastern Germany has been dogged by right-wing extremism ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall — with some areas label “no-go zones” by immigration groups because of the number of assaults on people with dark skin.

None of Germany’s 15 other regional states have plans to issue a similar decree ordering nursery operators to sign up to the constitution, and several anti-racism campaigners said it would not help prevent problems.

Skinheads hurt 19 in attack on Russian rock festival

Aug 30 (Reuters) – Around 100 skinheads attacked crowds of revellers at a Russian rock festival on Sunday, injuring 19 people, Russian media said on Monday.

State-run Rossiya 24 showed large groups of bare-chested men with cropped hair running up to the entrance of the “Tornado” festival in the Urals city of Miass, some 1,400 km (850 miles) east of Moscow.

A spokeswoman said local police had no immediate comment on the motive for the attacks.

At least 60 people were killed in Russia last year in hate crimes, and 306 were injured, according to SOVA a rights group that racist violence in the country. Most were attacks on dark-skinned Muslim migrants from Central Asia.

Witnesses at the 3,000-strong festival said some of the men fired gunshots into crowds, Rossiya 24 said, and it showed policemen collecting axes and batons belonging to the skinheads.

Six of the 19 injured were taken to hospital, it said.

Ekho Moskvy radio station said the owner of a local cafe had been detained on suspicion of organising the violence.

Activists in Russia warn that increasing xenophobia and a corrupt police force allow far-right groups to prosper.

Neo-Nazi Group `Violent Subculture’ Targeted in Early-Morning Police Raids

German police conducted predawn raids against the country’s biggest neo-Nazi group, escalating efforts to stamp out a growing movement of potentially violent anti-immigrant extremists.

Police searched 30 premises across nine states tied to the HNG, a group with about 600 members that focuses on supporting neo-Nazi members during their imprisonment, Interior Ministry spokesman Markus Beyer said in an e-mailed response to questions. The group, founded in 1979, includes neo-Nazis as well as a “violent subculture of rightwing extremists.”

HNG is accused of “networking and strengthening the often fragmented neo-Nazi scene beyond existing ideological battle lines,” Deputy Interior Minister Klaus-Dieter Fritsche said in a statement from Berlin. “Imprisoned comrades are not only kept within the group while in jail, but also encouraged to ‘fight on against the system.’”

Germany has grappled with the proliferation of anti- immigrant and extremist groups, underscored by state election victories of the National Democratic Party of Germany. The number of neo-Nazis, a more virulent political force because of their identification with National Socialism and Adolf Hitler, climbed more than 4 percent to about 5,000 people last year. Germany’s population is about 82 million.

‘Fuehrer State’

Neo-Nazi organizations are more extreme than the larger number of anti-immigrant groups in Germany because of their implicit support for an authoritarian “Fuehrer state” along the lines of the Third Reich, according to the Interior Ministry’s annual report on extremist groups. Nazi symbols, such as swastikas and the Hitler salute, are banned in Germany.

Raids in states including Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Berlin were still taking place today and the ministry declined to give details about the size of the operation. No arrests or incidents of violence were reported.

In March 2009, the government banned a neo-Nazi organization, Heimattreue Deutsche Jugend, which sought to attract youths to an anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant ideology under the guise of activities such as summer camps and outings. Police had uncovered swastikas, black-clad youngsters and extremist lyrics during a raid on one of the HDJ’s camping sites on the Baltic Sea coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state.

While the NPD has won seats in state assemblies such as the eastern state of Saxony, the party has never won a seat in Germany’s lower house of parliament, the Bundestag.
