“Skinhead Soldiers” Arrested For Homeless Beating

“Skinhead Soldiers” Arrested For Homeless Beating

Cincinnati Police say they’re working with military police to round up the last skinhead soldier charged with beating a homeless man.

The Army arrested Specialist Travis Condor today — he’s stationed at Fort Bragg. He and a soldier in his unit, Matt MacMurtrie, are charged with felonious assault. MacMurtrie is not in custody.

Police say the three soldiers and a friend from Norwood went looking for a homeless man to beat up and found John Johnson in his Mitchell Avenue camp. They allegedly beat Johnson with metal pipes and baseball bats as he slept along Mitchell Avenue and I-75 in the early morning hours of April 10th, telling him to “get a job” and leaving him with severe bruises and requiring stitches.

Local 12’s Joe Webb says Private Riley Feller who was arrested at Fort Knox yesterday waived extradition this morning so he could be in Cincinnati by the weekend. Michael Hesson from Norwood is held on a probation violation in the Butler County jail. Now police are focusing on rounding up the last soldier at Fort Bragg and getting those two to Cincinnati. They’re also trying to get a handle on their skinhead bond — if there is one.

Riley Feller’s mugshot could be that of any GI with closely cropped hair. But a Myspace page linked to the 24-year-old soldier named Riley Feller is covered with skinhead art. And encourages people to rock against skinheads who work with cops. “We’re trying to figure that out further. We’re working with some other agencies, military agencies that have information on some of those skinhead organizations that some of these four individuals might have been on. With that, we’re trying to figure out what connections are with that. We don’t know.”

Feller lived in Northern Kentucky for a while but Michael Hesson is the only current local guy among the four. After his court appearance yesterday, people in Northside, where he hung out, were surprised. They have trouble believing he was part of a group that waylaid John Johnson in his homeless camp. “I don’t know what they mean to be skinheads. I don’t. I don’t know but like I said they’re more around them guys with the scooters and stuff hanging around with.”

The four were spotted at a big scooter rally at The Comet in Northside hours before the beating. There was speculation that’s what brought the four to town. Police want that cleared up. “They are in no way, shape or form associated with the scooter club in Northside nor any of the local taverns or our good people of Northside that came forward. They are not associated with them at all.”

Police aren’t saying how they are connected or why they were in Cincinnati the weekend of April 10th. They say Feller has an ex-girlfriend in the area who may be dating Condor. Police say Hesson is the only real connection to the area. but Riley Feller’s Myspace page makes several mentions of Cincinnati.

Feller has a previous assault conviction but police don’t believe the victim was a homeless person.

All four men are charged with felonious assault. Police say they may drive to Hardin County, Kentucky as soon as tomorrow to pick up Feller.

Russian judge who cracked down on skinheads and corruption is gunned down

A Russian city court judge who cracked down on high-level corruption and nationalist skinhead groups was gunned down in the stairwell of his Moscow apartment today.

Eduard Chuvashov, 47, was fatally shot in the head and chest, RIA-Novosti reports.

Last week, Russia Today reports , Chuvashov sentenced leaders of the notorious Ryno Gang to 10 years each in prison for their random killing of at least 20 people of non-Slavic appearance. The group uploaded videos of the slayings online.

In February, he sentenced members of the White Wolves nationalist group to prison terms of up to 23 years for 11 murders , mainly of central Asians.

RIA-Novosti says that according to Moscow City Court’s website, the judge today was to begin looking into the case of Vladimir Belashev, a former member of the Interior Ministry department in charge of fighting organized crime, who was accused of taking part in the bombings of two statues near Moscow.

Chuvashov’s high-profile cases included Federal Drug Control Service officer Alexander Bulbov, who was accused of embezzling $3.2 million, illegal phone tapping, money laundering and offering bribes.

At the time of his arrest, Bulbov and his colleagues had been investigating a furniture smuggling cases that resulted in the arrests of five senior officers of the FSB, formerly known as the KGB. The arrest, Ria-Novosti says, has prompted speculation over a possible conflict between the two state agencies.

Investigation continues into racial shirt incident

By Kriesgberichter

CHAMBERLAIN — The superintendent of the Chamberlain School District said Thursday that an investigation involving disruptive shirts worn by six students Wednesday is continuing at the school.
“The issue has polarized the community, and much will need to be done to overcome the actions taken by these students,” wrote Superintendent Tim Mitchell in a press release. “The facts will need to be determined and distributed and much healing will need to take place to allow for the entire community to come back together in a positive way.”

Four students left the school with parental notification Wednesday after homemade shirts with the words “White Pride World Wide” and “cracker” were worn to school. Two other students changed their shirts and stayed in school. All six of the students are white.

The shirts, which also featured a cross design commonly used by white supremacy groups, were deemed to be a violation of both the school’s dress code and a rule against disruptions to the school’s learning environment.

Mitchell said there’s a strong focus on finding out the inspiration behind the creation of the shirts. He wrote that one student claimed to have overheard American Indian students state that white students had more privileges in the school.

“They wanted to make a point that it was not true,” Mitchell wrote.

The same student said the group was not aware of what the symbol on the shirt meant, Mitchell wrote.

The first link to result from a Web search Thursday for “white pride world wide” was to www.stormfront.org, a forum featuring a topic titled “What’s wrong with good oldfashioned racism?”

“We all know, and science has proven, that blacks and browns are less intelligent than whites,” writes forum member “white_usa_.” “Blacks, browns and others are obviously lesser people.”

In Chamberlain, Mitchell stated that class meetings would take place Thursday to discuss the shirt incident.

“There was an incident at our school that has many students upset,” Mitchell wrote. “We are going to work through this and resolve the issues in a positive manner.”

According to published statistics from last year, Indians make up approximately 32 percent of the student population in the Chamberlain School District, compared to the 55 percent of students who are white.

Philadelphia: Mob Attacks Nazis, Tabloid Mocks Violence

Disgrace in Philadelphia: Violent Mob Attacks Nazis — Tabloid Mocks Violence

by Jeffrey Imm

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.)
www.realcourage.org/2010/04/disgrace-in-philadelphia/

Once again, another public activity by Nazis has resulted in violent mob attacks and beatings of them in public.

We saw this on April 17, 2010 in Los Angeles, and now apparently we see this again on April 27, 2010 in Philadelphia.

To those who believe that it is acceptable or humorous for mobs to violently attack those with Nazi groups or wearing Nazi garb, we ask you a simple question: who do you think is the real Nazi then? Them or you?

For full disclosure, the Nazi and white supremacist crowd knows that I am a dedicated opponent of their ideologies of hate. For nearly nine years, I have been reporting on Nazi threats around the world and the United States, and since 2005, I have had a dedicated web site “AgainstNazi.com” that addresses Nazi hate and their organizational activities. Here at the Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) human rights group web site, we have a category on Aryan Nazi Supremacism where we report on Nazi hate and atrocities that continue today; we have similar categories of reports on racial supremacism and on the Stormfront group. R.E.A.L.’s challenges to the “white nationalist” Stormfront group, led by a former member of the American Nazi Party Don Black, has garnered us threats for our public awareness efforts, including threats by numerous “white nationalist” groups who have tried to publish information about me to allow others to attack my home and family. Other Stormfront forum members post images about using guns on those who defy them. We have reported on Stormfront forum members conviction on terror plots, and frequently reported on Stormfront forum members support for terrorism, violence, and hate. A Nazi who was a writer for the National Vanguard has written false, slanderous, and defamatory articles about me and others to try to defame us, as has a Nazi from the National Alliance. Moreover, “white nationalists” from both the Occidental Dissent and American Renaissance have sought to personally attack me and even seek a “war” against me. To the Nazis and white supremacists, our message has been “we are not afraid.”

So let me set the record straight – I am no apologist, no supporter, and no appeaser of Nazi or white supremacist ideologies.

In America and around the world, we all have human rights. We disagree, we oppose views we disagree with, we even protest one another.

But when people take that disagreement to threats or actual violence, there should be no question – you have committed A CRIME.

One can rationalize threats and violence all they want, but a crime is a crime. A criminal is a criminal.

To those who believe that support, rationalize, or make jokes about opposing Nazis in America with mob violence and physical threats, I ask you – are you opposing Nazis, or becoming one?

The UPI reports about the recent Philadelphia mob attack on Nazis that “Three men who showed up in full Nazi regalia at a punk show in a Philadelphia club were attacked afterward outside by approximately 50 people, witnesses said… An witness told the newspaper the crowd punched and kicked the men in Nazi garb and used beer bottles and cue balls as weapons although Internet message boards said the attack was not quite so violent.” AOL News reports: “Witnesses said the men were mocked inside the Khyber club Friday night for sporting tattoos of Nazi symbols and wearing camouflaged combat pants, WWII-style coats emblazoned with SS emblems and Third Reich hats with Nazi insignias.” A blog report states that “The three victims barely made it 50 yards before the angry crowd set upon them. One Nazi was caught right in the middle of 2nd street as punches, kicks, bottles, boots and blows rained down upon his prone and turtled body. He could be heard crying for help all up and down the block. The other two were caught nearby and beaten severely as more weapons appeared.”

The reports lead to an obvious question: Which ones are the Nazis again? The ones with the ridiculous outfits or the mob that beat them?

You know the answer, and it is a disturbing trend that R.E.A.L. sees of too many justifying or laughing about political violence in America today. There are no “heroes” in political violence, especially in a democratic nation, not among those who would spit on Congressmen or throw bricks through their office windows, not those who would fly a plane into an IRS building, not those who would attack the Pentagon, and not even those who would believe they are justified in violent attacks on Nazis in Los Angeles and now in Philadelphia. Yes, they are all different circumstances, and you may like some victims and not others. But in every case of such political violence, there are no heroes, there are just criminals.

Two months ago in February 2010, we were disgusted to see those praising terrorist Joe Stack as a “hero,” and then appalled to find those who felt that it was humorous to describe such a terrorist murderer of an American veteran as “someone simply going out with a bang.” America’s freedoms allow such freedom of speech and freedom of press – even when it is despicable. But mocking those who are victims of political violence is the one sure way to start to degrade and undermine such American freedoms.

So it was particularly disturbing to see a Philadelphia tabloid newspaper that reported the April 27 attack on Nazis as “Concertgoers show the Reich stuff, are beaten by crowd,” with a mocking first sentence of the report on the victims of violence that reads “How did they Nazi this coming?” The new report also includes an email from someone apparently gloating about the attack on the Nazis “And they did get their asses kicked… Again.”

When did reporting on political violence in the news media become the source of mockery and gloating? What message does any reporter think that this sends to those who believe that violence is an acceptable approach to those we don’t like and don’t agree with?

I tried to reach the young writer of this article for a Philadelphia tabloid newspaper, but instead spoke to the editor that approved it. I explained to the editor our position in opposing Nazi hate, but also pointed out our opposition to such mob violence, and the editor explained his family’s suffering during the Holocaust. The editor explained to me that a tabloid newspaper has a different style than a broadsheet newspaper, and has different titles intended to grab readers’ attention. The editor further explained that the headline “Concertgoers show the Reich stuff, are beaten by crowd” had garnered the most online attention to the tabloid newpaper’s report, and people reading about the story ensured that it got reported. The editor further stated that the report did not “take sides on the issue.”

Imagine for a moment, however, if the mob violence wasn’t against an ideology as universally rejected as Nazism, but was against another ideology, perhaps another political party, another identity group, another race, religion, gender. Would it still be “funny?” Would it still be “clever”? And would reporting the boasting from an attendee at the club about victims of violence getting “their asses kicked” still be responsible journalism? But the general idea that many have is, because it is about Nazis, well, that’s acceptable, essentially because we don’t agree or respect their views that somehow they are less of a human being than anyone else. You don’t have to be a human rights activist to recognize that such thinking is simply wrong. Hate is hate and violence is violence.

There is one nation that accepted the view of using threats and physical violence against those that they disliked and disagreed. Political violence was their primary tool in silencing dissent, in taking over the government, in oppressing others who were different from them. Their media consistently mocked and degraded the victims of such hate and violence. You know that nation whose leaders and whose people embraced such hate and political violence. It was called Nazi Germany, and it was led by Adolf Hitler. It was the same Nazi Germany, whose “final solution” was the Holocaust of 6 million Jews, something that America could have and did not stop.

This year, we remembered the Holocaust on April 11, 2010. We remembered the Holocaust at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC, where I recently wheeled a older, black Christian woman in wheelchair around that weekend so that she too could see the consequences of hate. We remember the Holocaust annually at our nation’s capital, people of all nationalities, all races, and all religions, and hold a reading of the names of the victims at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum – by average people who are dedicated to never forget. This year my wife and I read names together at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

We remember the Holocaust. But what have we learned from it? What have the mobs in Los Angeles and now in Philadelphia learned from it?

You would think that nearly 70 years after the start of the mass killings at the Holocaust that we would have learned some lessons about humanity, the cancer of political violence, and the virus of hate. But what have we learned when too many think that political violence is acceptable? What we have learned when some rationalize mob violence against those whose views we despise? As political violence is becoming increasingly “acceptable,” what path is OUR nation on today?

When we say “Never Again,” that includes America too.

We must never forget the tragic and horrific lessons of the results of hate and political violence – then and now. “Never again” does not only mean never allowing such atrocities again, it also means never becoming like those who rationalized and laughed about hate and political violence.

On June 10, 2009, a Nazi white supremacist James Von Brunn attacked the U.S. Holocaust Memorial museum and murdered black security guard Stephen Tyrone Johns.

On June 13, 2010, Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) will publicly remember that attack on America by those who hate on at Washington DC’s Freedom Plaza. To those who threaten us, know that we are not afraid.

But when we defy Nazi and white supremacist violence, we will do so with peace.

When we defy Nazi and white supremacist hate, we will do so with love.

When we say “Never Again” to such hate, that must include our own hate.

We will never defeat hate with hate. The terrorist who attacked the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum praised hate. Terrorist James Von Brunn viewed hate as “natural, normal, and necessary.” Von Brunn and all those who promote hate expect you to agree. They expect you to become just like them. That is how they win.

But you have a choice. You can choose to not let hate and fear rule your life, your decisions, and your way of dealing with the world. You can choose to reject hate’s political violence as acceptable, justifiable, or even humorous.

You have the power and the ability to shape your actions, your nation’s future, and humanity’s destiny.

Responsible for Equality And Liberty Asks You to Choose Love, Not Hate. Love Wins.

Cyber-racism summit to be held in Sydney
April 27, 2010

Leading minds from the anti-discrimination and internet communities will join forces to tackle online racism in Sydney.

The Australian Human Rights Commission says instances of cyber-racism, which includes racist websites, images, blogs, videos and comments on website forums, are on the rise.

In a bid to solve the problem, the commission has teamed up with the Internet Industry Association to co-host a cyber-racism summit on Tuesday.

Race Discrimination Commissioner Graeme Innes said the summit provided a unique opportunity for international cyber-safety experts to come together and develop ways of tackling online racism.

“This is definitely not going to be a passive conference,” he said in a statement.

Association chief executive Peter Coroneos said the summit would help internet industry professionals better understand cyber-racism from the perspective of those affected by it.

The nature of online racism, where it is happening, and ways of counteracting it will all be on the summit’s agenda.

Fight intensifies over N.J. kids with Nazi-based names

By Kriesgberichter

FLEMINGTON — A custody battle intensified Thursday for a New Jersey couple who gave their children Nazi-inspired names.

Heath and Deborah Campbell’s three small children were removed from their Hunterdon County home last year, not long after a supermarket refused to decorate a birthday for then-3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell.

Deborah Campbell and attorney Pat Giannetta attended a hearing at family court in Hunterdon County on Thursday. A judge kept a gag order in place, and the parties left through a back door and didn’t discuss the hearing. State child services officials have declined to discuss the case, citing confidentiality laws.

Reached by cell phone Thursday, Heath Campbell, who didn’t attend Thursday’s hearing, said, “I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s been too long. I miss my kids.”

Adolf Hitler Campbell, now 4, and siblings JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, 3, and 2-year-old Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell were removed from the Campbell home in January 2009. They have been in foster care since then.

A ‘Recovering Skinhead’ On Leaving Hatred Behind

By Kriesgberichter

I’ve met Frank Meeink personally and honestly, he was nothing more than a DORK.

A ‘Recovering Skinhead’ On Leaving Hatred Behind

As a teenager, Frank Meeink was one of the most well-known skinhead gang members in the country. He had his own public access talk show, called The Reich, he appeared on Nightline and other media outlets as a spokesman for neo-Nazi topics, and he regularly recruited members of his South Philadelphia neighborhood to join his skinhead gang.

At 18, Meeink spent several years in prison for kidnapping one man and beating another man senseless for several hours. While in prison, Meeink says, he was exposed to people from a variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds and started reevaluating his own racist beliefs. His transformation solidified, he tells Dave Davies, after the Oklahoma City bombing, when he saw the iconic photo of a firefighter cradling a lifeless girl in his arms.

Frank Meeink

“I felt so evil. Throughout my life, even when I was tattooed up and wanting to be a skinhead, I felt like maybe I was bad on the outside. But I felt good on the inside,” he says. “And that day it switched. I felt OK on the outside, but I felt so evil inside. I had no one to talk to. … So I went to the FBI and … I told them my story. I said ‘I don’t have any information on anybody, but I just need to let you know what it’s like.’ And of course they wanted to listen, because the Oklahoma City bombing had happened.”

The FBI recommended that Meeink contact the Anti-Defamation League — which he did. He now regularly lectures to students about racial diversity and acceptance on behalf of the ADL, and he has written a memoir about his past, called Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead.

Meeink says the biggest change in the skinhead movement since he left is how easily members can spread their message and communicate with one another.

“When I was around, we contacted each other through P.O. Box numbers — and not through Web sites,” he says. “So the Web has really got numbers looking bigger than they are. But you gotta remember, too: Sometimes those are just misguided kids who are looking for anything to do. But if your children are looking at these Web sites more regularly, and they’re not looking at them for research, you need to step in and ask why and ask the right questions.”

Interview Highlights:

On the neighborhood where Meeink grew up, in South Philadelphia
“You’re raised knowing don’t go into the other neighborhoods. It’s passed down through generations of Irish people in the neighborhood. So I come from a place that has a feel-good background to it. We’re very proud of being Irish. Proud of being working class. And it was a tough neighborhood. A lot of drugs and alcohol were really bad in our neighborhood. Decisions were made in our neighborhood at the Catholic church or in the bar.”

On how attending a predominantly African-American middle school influenced his later racial hatred
“That school was what did it for me. Growing up in South Philly, where we just had this Irish pride thing, I never really thought of the other races or the other races who lived around us as inferior or as much trouble because most of the kids — and most of the fistfights you got into — were with other Irish kids. We all knew each other. So it wasn’t this big ‘I hate them.’ It was just an us-them. Once I got out there and noticed that the ‘us’ was very, very small and the ‘them’ was very, very big — and there was no one helping me — and I think that’s where it started.”

On how he became involved with neo-Nazi activities
I went up to the Lancaster, Pa., area, and I’m up there and some of my family — my mother’s sister, my aunt and uncle moved up there with their kids. And I was very close with all of my cousins. … My cousin that lived in the Lancaster area was very into punk rock, very into skateboarding. And I couldn’t wait to get up there that summer and live there all summer. That was the summer I was getting out of that [middle] school. So I get up there, and he’s not a skateboarder anymore. He’s not a punk rocker anymore. He’s a skinhead. And in his room, there’s a swastika flag and stories about Adolf Hitler and stories about skinheads. … And I knew of skinheads, but I didn’t know of their beliefs or anything yet. And he kind of introduces me to it. He says, ‘You know, this is what it is.’ And now every night, all these other skinheads would come over his house and come drinking and listening to music. And they’d always give me a couple beers. I was the young kid to the group. You know, they’re all 15-, 16-, 17-year-old guys who are cool to me. And they gave me a beer, and they start talking ‘multiracial society will never work.’ Now, I have no idea what that means at all.”

On the ideology of the neo-Nazi movement
“When they would say these bigger words, like multiracial and multiracial society, I had no idea in depth what that meant. When I asked, they would say about blacks and whites not getting along, and I understood what they were talking about. And we’re sitting around, and they’d say, ‘Oh, you went to school in Philadelphia. What’s it like?’ These kids have never really been down to the city, so they’re asking me what it’s like to go to school there, and I’m telling them it’s horrible, I hate it, it’s hell. And for me, when I look back on that now, that was finally someone saying to me, ‘How is your life? How are you doing? How is your school?’ Because my parents never said, ‘How was school today? What’d you learn?’ They never did that. For once, someone’s asking me how my life is.”

On his media appearances as a skinhead
“I did a lot of national TV shows, like with Ted Koppel and other news organizations, and so I’ve been kind of a face. And it just kind of happened, where someone said, ‘You are the face of our movement.’ I did a TV show. They liked me because basically I looked like a nut, so they wanted me on their other shows, and, you know, swastikas on a young kid’s neck sells TV shows, so now I did a couple shows like that, and I kind of made a name for myself. And then when I [moved] to Illinois, I wasn’t doing much media press, but I was really trying to get this thing started, so I got my own cable access show. … Called it The Reich, like Hitler’s Reich and the Third Reich, and started a talk show about being a skinhead. So everyone got to know me from this talk show and it went on from there. What I’d do to recruit kids from that show — I mean, it was easy — I’d go on, say this is what I’m into, then the media would pick up on it.”

On the crime that landed him in prison
“There was this lefty-type skinhead that hung around us in Springfield [Illinois] and he was the only one. And him, me and my roommate kinda had a falling out. My roommate didn’t like him. I didn’t like him. And I didn’t like mainly his political beliefs. So I [told him], ‘Come over to our house on Christmas Eve for a Christmas party,’ and when he came over, there was no Christmas party. It was just me and my roommate waiting for him. And we kidnapped him and we randomly beat this other human being for hours and videotaped the whole thing as a joke. And that’s eventually what got me put in prison.”

On his withdrawal from the skinhead community
“It had already come to me [while in prison]: Maybe I need to start looking at things. But I still always thought my purpose in life [was] God wouldn’t have put me in this purpose of being an Aryan Christian soldier if he didn’t want me here. So I’m still trying to say, ‘There’s something going on but I need to stick with this because that’s where I am. This is my team.’ But I’m on a train one day, and I’m talking to this black dude, and he just sits down next to me and he asks if I did prison time. He’s seen all my tattoos. Me and him start talking about prison life, about how we get away with things, how we sneak things away from guards and sneak food out, and just prison talk. So he gets off and he says, ‘Hey man. Real nice to meet you. You’re really down to Earth.’ And this is on the El train. So he gives me a pound and I get off and I walk off to this skinhead meeting that night. And these are all old recruits of mine in Philadelphia. These are all guys I got into this. … And I’m sitting at this party and I’m drinking … and I’m thinking about some of the guys I just did time with and parts of my life with my family, and one of the guys stands up and he starts saying, ‘Italians ain’t white,’ and I’m half Irish, half Italian, and I let him sit for a second. And he doesn’t know half of us are Italian in the Philly crew, and I say, ‘Hey, buddy. I’m half Italian, what do you think of that?’ And he says, ‘OK,’ and kinda the whole party stops. … So then we’re sitting there and everyone starts talking again about it, and I say, ‘How ’bout my daughter? My daughter’s probably more than 75 percent Italian. Are you saying she’s not white?’ And he says, ‘Nope, she ain’t white.’ And I just beat the crap out of this guy at this party. And I get everyone off of me and I say, ‘I’m outta here.’ And I walk back down, and I’m going to go catch the train by myself and go back home, and I had been drinking a little bit. And I remember looking up at God and saying, ‘God, maybe there’s something wrong. Maybe you’re right. Maybe on the black, Asian and Latino issue, maybe we are all equal.”

Canadian police probe ‘Holocaust soap’

By Kriesgberichter

Canadian authorities are testing swastika-engraved soap seized from a Montreal shop to see if, as advertised, it was made from the human remains of Holocaust victims, police have told AFP.

The soap was seized last week from a curiosity shop on Saint Laurent Boulevard in downtown Montreal after outraged Jewish groups complained.

The results of laboratory tests are expected in the coming days, a police spokeswoman said.

“The store owner claimed it was made from human remains, from the human fat of Jews killed in the Holocaust,” she said on Friday, adding that the shopkeeper was cooperating in the investigation.

“We seized the soap and it is now being analysed at a laboratory to verify the veracity of the claim, or whether it’s just a really bad joke.”

According to Canada’s public broadcaster, the store owner is himself Jewish, and told the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation he purchased the item from a former soldier.

It was on sale for $US300 ($A323).

Historians have dismissed reports that the Nazis mass-produced soap from the remains of Holocaust victims during World War II, but have said they may have experimented in making soap from fat in extermination camps.

Holocaust Documentary to Be Distributed by Beastie Boys Member

Holocaust Documentary to Be Distributed by Beastie Boys Member

Reuters’ Carl DiOrio reports that Adam Yauch, member of the Beastie Boys, and his production company Oscilloscope acquired the North American rights to the Holocaust documentary A Film Unfinished.

The Yael Hersonki directed film first opened in January at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. It’s the behind the scenes recounting on a Nazi film covering Jewish life in the Warsaw Ghetto.

“Hersonski relentlessly screens each reel as ghetto survivors and (amazingly) one of the original cameramen recall actual events, investing the cryptic scenes with detail, complexity, and authority,” reads the description on the Sundance website.

“This movie really affected me,” Yauch told Reuters. “It’s an incredibly powerful film, not just because of the rare Nazi propaganda footage it shows but also the captivating way the filmmakers tell the story.”

Reuters tells us that Oscilloscope will open A Film Unfinished August 18 on a single New York screen. A Manhattan venue will be added two days after; distribution will be expanded on future weekends.
